Learn To Play Angels From The Realms Of Glory

Angels, From The Realms Of Glory l LadyDpiano

I wrote a blog post in 2011, Angels We Have Heard On High. I have the chord charts listed in the following Keys... D, E, F, and G. So many different arrangements to choose. I love the song and it is very popular with my piano students.

One song that you may be familiar with is called:

Angels, From The Realms Of Glory

The author of Angels From the Realms of Glory was an Irishman called James Montgomery. He came from a religious family background and sadly his parents, who were missionaries died following their vocation. Angels From the Realms of Glory was written in 1816.

Sages, leave your contemplations,
Brighter visions beam afar;
Seek the great desire of nations,
Ye have seen His natal star;
Come and worship,
Come and worship,
Worship Christ, the newborn King!

Saints before the altar bending,
Watching long in hope and fear,
Suddenly the Lord, descending,
In His temple shall appear:
Come and worship,
Come and worship,
Worship Christ, the newborn King!

A Mighty Fortress: Slash Chords

A new Easter season is fast approaching and I have been reflecting on many of the songs I have performed in the past. I have fond memories of playing in an open amphitheater near the beach for an Easter sunrise service outdoors. Other times I had played the keyboard on a strings setting along with other worship team members for 4 Easter services on a Sunday morning. How is it going to be for you this year? Will you be performing as a musician or participating with your voice in congregational worship? Will you be mixing upbeat contemporary songs, like O Happy Day and balancing the song list with a few slow, traditional music favorites?

Here are a few songs I have posted in the past with their corresponding chord charts.

I thought I would share a traditional hymn with you and how I play it with the slash chords below.

Lyrics to A Mighty Fortress Is Our God (Verse 1) by Martin Luther

A mighty Fortress is our God,
A Bulwark never failing;
Our Helper He amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great,
And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

How To Play Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Cover of "All I Have Needed"
Cover of All I Have Needed

I have been thinking of this song all morning. This strong hymn with comforting lyrics is an all-time favorite with many. Our church body is praying for a woman named Sally who has Altzheimer's and wandered from a campground in the mountains. We hope for her safety and return to her family. She has been missing for 7 days now.

I wondered if you had a memorable traditional song that is one of your favorite's in addition to Amazing Grace? Perhaps it is, What a Friend We Have In Jesus.

Come Thou Fount Chords

Fountain at Grand Tradition

This song has been recorded by so many artists, including Jars of Clay. It is the background song to the film, Love Come Softly which is based on a Janet Okey novel. Also, it's my husband's favorite hymn and sounds wonderful on the guitar. We both have played it in many weddings. Are you familiar with this very popular tune? It's a song of God's grace that will last forever!

The Story Behind the Song

"Robert Robinson (1735-1790) was eight years old at the time of his father's death. He was a very bright, headstrong boy who became increasingly more difficult for his mother to handle. When Robert turned 14, she sent him to London for an apprenticeship with a barber. Robert proceeded to
   get into even more trouble, taking on a life of drinking and gambling..."

The story doesn't end here. You won't believe what happened next! For more reading about his transformation, continue here.

D GWhat a friend we have in Jesus,D AAll ours sins and griefs to bear,D GWhat a privilege to carryA DEverything to God in prayer!A DO what peace we often forfeit,G D AO what needless pain we bear,D GAll because we do not carryA DEverything to God in prayer!

Here is the same song in the Key of F:

F                        Bb
What a friend we have in Jesus,
F                           C Bb
All ours sins and griefs to bear,
F                   Bb
What a privilege to carry
F    C                F
Everything to God in prayer!
C                     F
O what peace we often forfeit,
Bb      F                C Bb
O what needless pain we bear,
F                     Bb
All because we do not carry
F    C                F
Everything to God in prayer!
