Learn To Play Angels From The Realms Of Glory

Angels, From The Realms Of Glory l LadyDpiano

I wrote a blog post in 2011, Angels We Have Heard On High. I have the chord charts listed in the following Keys... D, E, F, and G. So many different arrangements to choose. I love the song and it is very popular with my piano students.

One song that you may be familiar with is called:

Angels, From The Realms Of Glory

The author of Angels From the Realms of Glory was an Irishman called James Montgomery. He came from a religious family background and sadly his parents, who were missionaries died following their vocation. Angels From the Realms of Glory was written in 1816.

Chords and Lyrics

Shepherds, in the fields abiding,
Watching o'er your flocks by night,
God with man is now residing,
Yonder shines the infant Light;
Come and worship,
Come and worship,
Worship Christ, the newborn King!

Sages, leave your contemplations,
Brighter visions beam afar;
Seek the great desire of nations,
Ye have seen His natal star;
Come and worship,
Come and worship,
Worship Christ, the newborn King!

Saints before the altar bending,
Watching long in hope and fear,
Suddenly the Lord, descending,
In His temple shall appear:
Come and worship,
Come and worship,
Worship Christ, the newborn King!

Many of my piano students are playing the melody line in different keys this year. Using the same fingering, they are connecting with Jingle Bells in the Key of C, F, and G. Another approach for some of my intermediate piano players is the use of chord charts. Here is one to practice with, especially if you know your chords in the progression.

How To Play Silent Night

Silent Night at dawn's first light

This morning as I looked out over the land, I came upon a little bit of fog that had settled low in the valley. The town was still lit from last night with all its Christmas lights and in the distance, you can see a stream of headlights from the early morning commuters. The stillness reminds me of the famous Christmas song, Silent Night.

History

 "Silent Night" (German: Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht) is a popular Christmas carol, composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr in the small town of Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria. For more history, read here.

So, in 2008 I wrote a few arrangements to Silent Night and ways to learn how to play them. I received some nice emails from the post. Thank you, dear readers. Is this one of your favorites for singing and playing at Christmas?

As 2015 draws to a close, I'm highlighting 12 popular posts from my blog. I hope you enjoy revisiting them... or perhaps you may be reading them for the first time. Although this has been an exciting year for me to have held a piano recital at the skilled nursing facility in our town with so many talented piano students, I'm excited for the new year bringing a new website (this one, only better!) that I'll be working on, including a new teaching approach for preschoolers. I can't wait. Thank you dear readers!

How To Play These are The Special Times

Cover band in France

This picture was taken at a concert of a cover band in France. The photographer used a 50mm 1.8 lens to let as much light in as possible. When wide open you have a small depth of field which causes the background to blur. Please keep France in your prayers... I have been thinking about how much love and support has surrounded them through this very difficult time. With the holidays coming, keep your loved ones so close to your heart.

I remember Celine Dion singing this very popular song, These Are The special Times. It's track #12 on the 1998 album with the same name. The song was written by Diane Warren. It's a beautiful one.

How To Play Away In A Manger

Away In A Manger: LadyDpiano
photo credit: phaewilk

Some time ago I posted several arrangements of the traditional Christmas carol, Away In A Manger in the Key of E, F, and G. You can find the charts, here. The song was written by Martin Luther, Eugene Clark and Carl Mueller. It's a familiar melody line and we all pretty much know the song.

There's a different melody that may not be as recognizable that I found online. Here's a nice arrangement by William J. Kirkpatrick in the Key of F, played in 3/4 time. It almost sounds like a children's lullaby.
