No age is too early to begin piano lessons. I say the earlier the better! It's a green light to begin if the child is musical and eager to learn, and if the teacher is stimulating and imaginative enough.
But one must realize:
That expression at the piano during the preschool years is purely
physical - the joy of swing, movement and sound; therefore all stiffness
and conscious striving must be guarded against. After all, they're just
kids and their tiny hands are not fully developed. Plus, their attention span is limited.
That music existed before notes - therefore the child must, for a time, be unhampered by the printed page. Rote or ear-playing should be the rule until the piano is thoroughly explored, and the approach to it is confident and easy. Note reading should of course be taught, but not simultaneously with the playing of "pieces," however short. The length of this rote period, depends, naturally upon the child's ability.
That all music played should be short, often less than a four measure phrase, for even that much may be too complicated technically for the preschool child. Such motives as the following may be played all over the keyboard and in many keys.
Bass notes: left hand plays C and right hand plays F (two times)
Treble notes: left hand plays Bb, Ab, Gb and right hand plays Bb
The idea in each case is complete, yet simple enough to be expressed happily and musically. Any teacher can "make up" dozens of these short, amusing figures for the beginner.

For now, that wraps up basic progressions. Get familiar with all these progressions. Listen to how each one sounds. Recognize the different inversions used. Also, see how you are using inversions of each chord that let you flow to the next chord easily without moving your hands too much.
I have learned so much about progressions from other musicians and I am truly grateful for their input and help. Once you learn your chords then you can connect them together and the particular progression becomes a song.
A progression is simply a group of two or more chords. Each chord you play leads to the next chord. The goal is to get back to the I chord of the key you are in.
Progressions get their name from the bass/left hand notes you play.This is based on the Circle of 5ths. Here are some progressions that others have shared with me in that are used the most in gospel music. Here they are in the Key of C.
Remember, the numbers of C:
C=1 D=2 E=3 F=4 G=5 A=6 B=7
1-5-1 Progression
This progressions is usually found at the end of the song. Once you play the 5, you should feel a strong urge to go to the 1 chord.
Here is a little variation of the 1-5-1 progression. By adding in the minor 7th, it creates an even stronger urge to go to the 1. So, you don't add the 7th of the key you are in, you add the 7th of the chord. the V7 chord id the dominant 7th chord:
What I remember most about the glissando was hearing my song end in the high register, like the Disney song, "A Whole New World." The song ends well, we have peace and closure to an ending that either uses broken chords (arpeggiated) or a glissando.
My music dictionary defines glissando (glees-SAHN-doh) as a rapid scale produced by sliding the fingers or hand from one note to another.

"Hearing a smooth rise in tones going up or down in pitch is wonderful to hear on the piano. However, producing this gliding effect on the keys can be quite challenging for some pianists.
The funny thing is that when I hear a car skidding on a road, I immediately think of the sweeping sound of a glissando and Jerry Lee Lewis comes to my mind with the song, Great Balls of Fire. Glissando has a specific mark or notation in written sheet music. It sort of looks like a quarter rest lying on its side, turned horizontally. Also, you'll find the word gliss written above the squiggly line.
Here are a few tips to keep in mind when playing the glissando.
1. Hold your wrist as high as you can and over the middle of the keys. 2. Use a slightly bent thumb 3. Once curved and in position, play all the notes descending until you've reached the octave.
I have rather small hands so in the beginning I would practice glissando in sixths. That way I would reduce the tension in my arm and fingers. If you are fortunate to have large hands and a wider hand span, then by all means jump right in and practice the octave glissando.
Now, I've never played an ascending glissando in any written classical music that I can recall. If you see one, then use your left hand for ascending glissando tones. Some pianists prefer using their third finger in the right hand ascending also. Don't forget to use the damper pedal.
It takes lots of practice and constant motion of the hand and arm to achieve the sound you are looking for. At first, your thumb or finger may hurt a bit. I would suggest using a gauze bandage with a rubber band, or use a band-aid or perhaps scotch tape to protect soft skin.
I have played glissando occasionally sprinkled throughout a song in classical music or going into the chorus but I prefer a blues or rock song having a smash buckling ending with a descending glissando. What a great way to end a song. It sounds so professional and everyone loves to hear it."

* Hand Technique
The tenth chord is an excellent technique you can use on your left hand. The 10th chord is basically following this:
Every major chord is made up of these three numbers 1-3-5 of the scale played simultaneously. Basically, the 10th chord is made up of these three numbers inverted and played either simultaneously or in a "roll" form.
1-5-3 (the 3 actually becomes the 10)
For example:

That means that on the left hand you would play C-G-E. Now this may be rather hard for some of you. In fact, when I started playing the 10th chord I have to "roll" it until my fingers stretched out enough to play it as a chord. I have small hands...lol!
* How Do I Use The 10th Chord On Slow To Moderate Songs?
The most common way of using the 10th chord is to use the left hand on most "down" beats. It creates a wonderful full sound. Another common way to use the 10th chord is in a roll. This would mean the pianist would create the rhythm to the song playing the following numbers:
Moving up the keyboard: 1-5-3-5-1 (repeat)

I love teaching beginners, young children, and adults. I offer piano lessons for ages 3-103 and all levels from primer to advanced. We have a blast with piano games, playing duets, learning songs and theory.
I offer private and group lessons. I am a WunderKeys piano teacher for preschoolers, 3-years-old to Kindergarten. We have 2 recitals, Fall and Spring.
