How To Play Thrive by Casting Crowns

Thrive by Casting Crowns l LadyDpiano

My husband loves the song "Thrive" by Casting Crowns. Another favorite that my readers enjoy, Praise You In This Storm seems to be so comforting and hopeful when one is going through rough times. One of my favorites is Who Am I by Casting Crowns.

Here's the video to Thrive if you're not familiar with the song.

WeWorship: Praise You In This Storm

Praise You In This Storm

Have you ever experienced disappointment or perhaps you have been enduring a long, hard trial? Well, I found the words to this Casting Crowns song, Praise You In This Storm, to be so comforting. Sometimes all that one can do is to lift ones hands to the Lord as a sign of surrender, of worship and praise. Oh, to trust Him with all things... even our very own lives and especially with our loved ones.

Hope you enjoy the song. Here in SoCal we just came out of a huge rain and wind storm where we had 60 m.p.h. winds. No damage to our property but it will forever be memorable celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary through the storm!

Intro: Dm Bb F Am

Verse 1

Dm Bb
I was sure by now, God You would have reached
F C/E
down and wiped our tears away,
               Dm Bb(add2)
stepped in and saved the day but once again,
       F C
I say amen, and it's still raining

Pre-Chorus

Gm Bb(add2)
But as the thunder rolls, I barely hear Your whisper through the
Dm C
rain, I'm with You.
    Gm Bb)add2)
And as Your mercy falls, I raise my hands and praise the God who
F C
gives, and takes away

Chorus

Dm Bb F
And I'll praise You in this storm, and I'll lift my hands
                    C Dm
For You are who You are, no matter where I am
                Bb F
Every tear I've cried, You hold in your hand,
                  C/E Gm Bb
You never left my side, and though my heart is torn,
                          F Am
I will praise You in this storm

Verse 2

Dm Bb F
I remember when, I stumbled in the wind; You heard my
C/E
cry to You and raised me up
 Dm Bb(add2)
Again. But my strength is almost gone, how can
        F C
I carry on, if I can't find You..?

PreChorus

Chorus

Bridge

Gm7 Bb F
I lift my eyes unto the hills, where does my help come from..?

My help come from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

The 9th Chord

The C9 Chord

We have learned that triads such as major, minor, augmented and diminished chords are 3-note chords. Hence, the word triad. When we add one or more note to a chord, we call them "extended chords." Chords like minor 6ths and 7ths have an extra note that extends beyond the triad. When you get to the 9th chords and beyond, you have 5 or more notes in the same chord.

All 9th chords (C9, G9, D9, F9, A9, B9, Ab9, Eb9, Db9, Gb9, Bb9, etc.)

Major 9th bass chords.

Ninth chords are five-note chords that span the usual intervals up to a ninth (root-3-5-7-9); and most often, the ninth interval remains major, even in minor 9th chords.

Read what Jermaine Griggs says about ninth chords.

The major 9th chord is basically a major 7th chord with one extra note added - the major 9th.

Playing the major 9th chord is easy. Just play a major 7th chord, and add a note that is an interval of a major 9th from the root note of the chord. Another way to think about it is by using a formula of half steps. Below is the formula for the major 9th chord.

Root + 4HS + 3HS + 4HS + 3HS

You can play the major 9th chord in all twelve keys. Below is a list of all 12 major 9th chords.

Learn How To Play American Dream

Casting Crowns
Cover of Casting Crowns

In 2003, Mark Hall and Hector Cervantes wrote American Dream. The sheet music for the piano is in the Key of D. I've been playing the piano for quite sometime now and have found that the D5 piano chord is really easy to play. Do you have a favorite Casting Crown song? One of my favorites that I have blogged about earlier is, Voice of Truth.

American Dream by Casting Crowns

Intro
D Bm D
All work no play may have made Jack a dull boy
                Bm D
But all work no God has left Jack with a lost soul
               D
But he's moving on full steam
Bm D
He's chasing the American dream
                              Bm
And he's gonna give his family finer things

Maybe Tomorrow we'll have time to play
                       Bm D
And then he slips into his new BMW

And drives farther and farther and farther away

But the wind and the rain are comin' crashing in

E G
He tells them things will get better

It'll just take a little more time

Chorus

Verse 3

How To Play: If We Are the Body

In 2003 Mark Hall wrote a moderately fast song called, If We Are The Body. I like it!

If We Are The Body

(Capo 2)

G   G Gmaj7 G Gmaj7 (x4)    {Gmaj7 are hammered on and off}

       Em7 Csus2
It's crowded in worship today
            A7Sus4 Asus4 Csus2 Dsus4/F#
As she slips in trying to fade into the faces
    Em7 Csus2
The girls teasing laughter is carrying
                   A7Sus4 Asus4
Farther than they know
                  Csus2 Dsus4/F#
Farther than they know, Lord

(Chorus)
       G
But if we are the body
               Dsus4/F#
Why aren't His arms reaching?
                Em7
Why aren't His hands healing?
               Csus2
Why aren't His words teaching?
       G
And if we are the body
               Dsus4/F#
Why aren't His feet going?
            Em7 Dsus4/F# Csus2
Why is His love not showing them there is a way?

           Em7 {4 measures}
There is a way.

   Em7 Csus2
A traveler is far away from home
         A7Sus4 Asus4
He sheds his coat
             Csus2 Dsus4/F#
And quietly sinks into the back row
     Em7 Csus2
The weight of their judgmental glances
                A7Sus4 Asus4
Tells him that his chances
                      Csus2 Dsus4/F#
are better out on the road

(Chorus)

(Bridge)
Dsus4/F# Em7 A7Sus4 Csus2
Jesus paid much too high a price
                                     Dsus4/F#
For us to pick and choose who should come
               Em7 A7Sus4 Csus2
And we are the bo - - -dy of Christ

(Chorus) x2

             Em7 {3 measures}
Jesus is the way

and time again "boy you never win, you never win"

Chorus:

F C(add4) Dm Bbsus2
But the voice of truth tells me a different story the voice of truth
                     F C/E Dm

                       Bbsus2 Dm Bbsus2
out of all the voices calling out to me i will choose to listen and believe

the voice of truth

Verse 2:

    Bb Fsus2 F C Bb
