3 'You Are' Songs with Chords

the letter Y
Many of you tell me that you're playing for your church and that you are with a worship band. That it so nice to hear and I thank you for sharing with me. I have lots of chord charts that I've saved over the years that mostly are in the Key of G, D and E. There's a few I have in A. The cool thing is that if you know how to play in all the keys, then it doesn't matter what key the worship leader chooses to sing in because you know your theory. Many of you understand the 'number system.' I'll talk about that some more at another time but here's a few oldies that I remember... the songs start with Y.

1. You Are My All In All
performed by Aaron Shust and written by Dennis Jernigan

G D Em
You are my strength when I am weak
            G C
You are the treasure that I seek
           G D G D
You are my all in all

G D Em
Seeking You as a precious jewel

Jesus, Lamb of God, worthy is Your name

G D Em
Taking my sin, my cross, my shame
       G C
Rising again, I bless Your name
           G D G D

So, keep in mind these three charts are used in a band so everyone is on the same page. Keyboard players will want to play in a different register, upper range most likely and sometimes drop some bass notes. Remember, if you're soloing for the offering or playing songs at weddings, etc. you can always stylize and embellish when playing in another key, like Eb.

Charlie Hall: Center

He lends His strength

Charlie Hall, the musician, is a Christian worship leader and songwriter from Oklahoma CityOklahoma
He is a member of a group of musicians and speakers that collectively form the Passion movement.

Center was written in 2005 with Generation Music. I like the song because it's mellow and just flows peacefully.

Here are the chords to the song:

Verse:
            E
You're the center of the universe
B A
Everything was made in You Jesus
E
Breath of every living thing
B A
Everyone was made for You

PreChorus:

 A B
You hold everything together
         A B
You hold everything together

Chorus:

 E E/D# A
Christ be the center of our lives
        B E

Charlie Hall: Center Video

It's such a soothing song. I remember playing it once with a young worship leader who had a good
voice. As a keyboard player, I think he wanted me to play with the team using a pad sound.
You know, one of those ethereal voices for background sounds, where you're not in a hurry in between chords.

Chris Tomlin: Not To Us (Chords)

Worship BG - Not To UsImage by bemky via Flickr
Not To Us by Chris Tomlin and Jesse Reeves (words and music) was written in 2001. It was recorded a half step lower. I have chord charts for this great song in the Key of G and Key of A. I wanted to focus this particular chord chart in the Key of C because I get lots of requests from beginners and also from those folks who may be longing to play in another Key other than C Major. Before we go on, let's take a look at this song and see if we know our chords and chord progression in C.

C Am7
The cross before me the world behind, No turning back raise the
        G
banner high
F C Csus C
It’s not for me, it’s all for you

C Am7
Let the heavens shake and split the sky, Let the people clap their
         G
hands and cry

F C Csus C
It’s not for us, it’s all for you

C Fsus F Fsus F
Not to us, but to your name be the glory
C Fsus F Fsus F
Not to us, but to your name be the glory

C Am7
Our hearts unfold before your throne, the only place for those who
 G
know
  F C Csus C
It’s not for us, it’s all for you
C Am7
Send your holy fire on this offering, let our worship burn for the
         G
world to see
F C Csus C
It’s not for us, it’s all for you

C
The earth is shaking, the mountains shouting
F
It’s all for you
    Am7 G
The waves are crashing, the sun is raging,
F
It’s all for you
   C
The universe spinning and singing
