Jesus Culture Long beach

Over the summer I attended Jesus Culture in Long Beach, California. The huge hall quickly filled up with young people and the worship band began to play this beautiful song by Matt Redman.

Westin Hotel in Long Beach, California

We stayed at a beautiful place called the Westin Hotel. The facilities were grand and we walked a short distance to the conference. I hope you get the chance to hear this particular song in corporate worship. Perhaps you've played it on the worship team. If you're not familiar with the melody, here it is on YouTube.

How do you play the Cadd9?

You play the c chord and add the 9th degree. C is the root position (1st degree), E is 3rd degree, G is the 5th degree. The 9th degree would be D or, you can just play the C chord while adding your second degree finger to the D note. CDGCE in other words 1 2 5 8 10. If you play a C in the left hand, and anything consisting of D, E, G, or C in the right hand, then you have a Cadd9. CGC/ EGD (or EGCD)

Wikipedia says, Matt Redman is an English Christian worship leader, song-writer and author. I enjoy playing his songs and I believe Better Is One Day was written by Matt Redman in 1997. Most artists play this song in E but I've heard it in medleys starting in D and modulate to the Key of E.

Chord Chart:

VERSE 1:
     E
How lovely is Your dwelling place,
A B
 oh Lord Almighty
 E B
My soul longs and even faints for You
     E
For here my heart is satisfied,
A B
 within Your presence
   E B
I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings

CHORUS:
           A
Better is one day in Your courts
           B
Better is one day in Your house
           A
Better is one day in Your courts
                B
Than thousands elsewhere

VERSE 2:
      E
One thing I ask and I would seek,
A B
 to see Your beauty
    E B
To find You in the place Your glory dwells

BRIDGE:
C#m7 B
My heart and flesh cry out,
A B
 for You the living God
C#m7 B A B
Your spirit's water to my soul
C#m7 B
 I've tasted and I've seen,
A
 come once again to me
E/G#
I will draw near to You
F#m7 B
I will draw near to You

So, in the right hand, I'm playing single melody notes. Sometimes this may not be a good thing to double up and play what the singers are doing. Here it is anyways so that you can hear the notes.

E, D#, C#, E, F#, E, A, E, C# B
How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty.

E, D#, C#, E, F#, E, B, B
My soul long and even faints for You.

E, D#, C#, E, E, F, E, A, G#, B
For here my heart is satisfied within Your presence.

E, D#, C#, F#, G#, B
I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings.

Chorus:

G#, B, B, G#
Better is one day in Your house

G#, B, B, A/C#, B
Better is one day in Your courts Than thousands elsewhere.

When you change the chords just a little and add more flavor, like playing A2 or Bsus, it makes the sound fuller.

Learn To Play Amazing: Matt Redman

One of the Matt Redman song's that's simple to play is called Amazing. I made a video from my webcam but need to work on the angle view. Plus, I forgot the tag part to the song and made a mistake or two!  lol Be gentle with me, since this is my first video recording from my laptop. When school is out, I'll work on more music at the keyboard and see how it all works out with the recording.

Here's the chord chart:

Amazing

VERSE 1:
D/F# G
A love so undeserved,
  D/A
a gift that's free,
    G/B D/F#
You lavish on me
          G
A peace I could not earn,
    D/A G/B D/F#
and mercy for the freedom of my soul

CHORUS 1:
D G D/A G/B
That's what's so amazing about Your grace
D G D/A
That's what's so amazing about Your grace

VERSE 2:
D/F# G
Forgiveness runs so deep
  D/A G/B
Within Your heart of loving kindness
D/F# G
And should a soul forget
    D/A G/B D/F#
The cross of Christ reminds us every day

CHORUS 2:
D G D/A G/B
That's what's so amazing about Your grace
D G D/A
That's what's so amazing about Your grace
      D/F#
Lord, everyday
    G
You pour on me
     D/A G/B
Your blessings of eternity,
    D G D/A G
and that's what's so amazing about Your grace

BRIDGE:
D/F# G
Freely I've received, now freely to give
D/A G/B
Freely I've received, now freely to give
D/F# G

Top 100 Praise Charts

I recently came across this site, http://www.praisecharts.com/ccli-top-100.

What I discovered was a marvelous list of the top 100 praise charts from awhile ago.
To me, it looks like I posted the chords to some of these great praise and worship songs
but I kind of get the feeling I am a bit behind and could keep posting more.
What do you think? Do you have a favorite song or two? Drop me a note if you need chords.

So, then what is worship? Wikipedia defines it as,

"Contemporary worship music (CWM) is a loosely defined genre of Christian music used in contemporary worship. It has developed over the past sixty years and is stylistically similar to pop music. The songs are frequently referred to as "praise songs" or "worship songs" and are typically led by a "worship band" or "praise team", with either a guitarist or pianist leading"...

Many Contemporary Christian music (CCM) artists such as Michael W. Smith, Rebecca St. James, David Crowder Band, and Tree63 have covered a number of Redman's songs. Some of his most popular songs include "Heart Of Worship", "Let Everything That Has Breath", "Once Again", "Undignified", "Better Is One Day", and the 2005 Dove Award-winning "Blessed Be Your Name" (Worship Song of the Year). He regularly works alongside other Christian artists such as Phatfish and Chris Tomlin.
Redman started leading worship at St Andrews, Chorleywood, moving to help start up Soul Survivor alongside Mike Pilavachi and was the worship leader for the Soul Survivor Church in Watford. According to founder Mike Pilavachi, the Soul Survivor festivals (which began in 1993) grew out of worship sessions with him and the then 15-year-old Redman.[1]

E B F#m B7sus4
When the music fades, all is stripped away, and I simply come;
  E B F#m
Longing just to bring, something that's of worth
                     B7sus4
That will bless your heart.
     F#m E/G# B
I'll bring you more than a song,
                 F#m E/G# B B/D# E
For a song in itself is not what You have required
   F#m E/G# B
You search much deeper within
                           F#m
Through the way things appear;
                 E/G# B
You're looking into my heart

Chorus:

  E B2/D#
I'm coming back to the heart of worship
               F#m A B E
And it's all about You, its all about You, Jesus
    E B2/D#
I'm sorry Lord for the thing I've made it,
           F#m A B E
When it's all about You, all about You, Jesus

  E B F#m B7sus4
King of endless worth, no one could express, how much You deserve;
  E B F#m B7sus4
Though I'm weak and poor, all I have is Yours, every single breath
    F#m E/G# B
I'll bring you more than a song.
                F#m E/G# B B/D# E

You search much deeper within
                            F#m
Through the way things appear;

You're looking into my heart

The Heart of Worship/Where Angels Fear to Tread
I hope you enjoy playing this worshipful song. I have played it often and in many different keys depending on the voice range of  the worship leader. Get familiar with playing a song you love in all the keys. Experiment moving chords up a whole step or half step. It gets easier the more you practice. We tend to play only in the keys that are easy or the ones were familiar with. So, stretch yourself and try those unfamiliar keys. Some will want to hit the "transpose" button on their keyboard... I know! lol
All the best,
~ LadyD
