Amy Grant: Father's Eyes

Greatest Hits (Amy Grant album)
In 1978 Gary Chapman wrote the words and music to Father's Eye's. The sheet music is from the book, Amy Grant Greatest Hits. I found an easy arrangement with chord progressions in the Key of D. It's played gently with 4/4 time signature. Here are the chords.

D A
I may not be every mother's dream for her little girl
D A D
And my face may not grace the mind of everyone in the world
         G A D G
But that's alright as long as I can have one wish I pray...
                     F#/D G A
When people look inside my life, I want to hear them say...
            D C#/A
She has her Father's eyes, her Father's eyes
G F#/D
Eyes that find the good in things
      G F#/D
When good is not around
     G F#/D
And eyes that find the source of help
Em A
When help just can't be found
       G F#/D G F#/D
And eyes full of compassion, seeing every pain
G F#/D Em A
Knowin' what you're going through , and feeling it the same
(nc) D
Just like my Father's eyes
           C#/A
My Father's eyes
          Bm
My Father's eyes
             F#? G
my Father's eyes---eyes, eyes, eyes
          A D
You know its just like my Fathers eyes

And on that day when we will pay for all the deeds we have done
Good and bad well they'll all be had to see by evry one
And when they're called to send and tell just what they saw
in you and me what more than anything I know
I want their words to be...

We had her Father's eyes, our Father's eyes
Eyes that find the good in things
When good is not around
And eyes that find the source of help
When help would not be found
Eyes full of compassion, seeing every pain
Knowin what you're going through, and feelin' it--the same
Just like our Father's eyes
Our Father's eyes
Our Father's eyes---eyes, eyes, eyes..
These are just random photos but wouldn't you agree that babies/children's
eyes are so cool? We're expecting our 5th grandchild any time now.
I'll keep you posted!

"Friends not only fill our lives with joy by surrounding us with their warm fellowship, but also help our feet from slipping during horrendous storms in life. Certain Bible verses on friendship remind us of how important and valuable good friends are! Moreover, with God as the center of our friendship, we know that no misunderstanding, envy or pride can break our friendship. When we give our God the central position in our lives and our relationships, He will honor and guard them for us!"

Our grandson is almost 5 now and he is a very friendly lad. We were listening to this song the other day, Friend Song. It's great for character building in regards to being a good friend. No, I don't have the chords to this one but it sure is cute!

1. Friend Song

I’m your friend, you’re my friend
We’ll stick together until the end
We’re caring, we’re sharing
Respecting, connecting
I believe in you, you believe in me
Showing loyalty and honesty
We share our history, nothing’s a mystery
We both have the key to reach our dreams
I’m your friend, you’re my friend
This friendship lasts forever
There’s so much more to me than how I look, you see
Get, get to know me, look in my heart and see
And when you see me for the real me
I know that we could be friends forever
And I know, yes I know
I’m not alone, I’m not alone
We got each other, we got each other
I know that we could be friends forever
I’m your friend, you’re my friend
This friendship lasts forever

Funny thing is that Jason Mraz lives in our hometown and is quite a popular guy with the young people. Listen to the MP3, here.

We are magic, he said
But don't let it all go to your head
'Cause I bet if you had it all figured out
Then you'd never get out of bed
Well, no doubt
Of all the thing's that I've read what he wrote me
Is now sounding like the man I was hoping to be
I keep on keeping it real
'Cause it keeps getting easier, you'll see

He's the reason that I'm laughing
Even if there's no one else
He said you've got to love yourself

He said you shouldn't mumble when you speak
But keep your tongue up in your cheek
And if you stumble on to something better
Remember that it's humble that you seek
You got all the skill you need
Individuality
You got something
Call it gumption, call it anything you want

Because when you play the fool now
You're only fooling everyone else
You're learning to love yourself

There's no price to pay
When you give it what you take
That's why it's easy to thank you

Let's say take a break from our day
And get back to the old garage
Because life's too short anyway
But at least it's better than average
As long as you got me and I got you
You know we got a lot to go around
I'll be your friend, your other brother
Another love to come and comfort you

And I'll keep reminding
If it's the only thing I ever do
I will always love you

It's true, our love is true
It's you I love, it's you I love, it's you, it's you I love
It's true, our love is true, our love is true, it's you I love
It's you I love, it's you I love, it's you, it's you I love

Climb up over the top
Survey the state of the soul
You've got to find out for yourself
Whether or not you're truly trying
Why not give it a shot?
Shake it, take control
Inevitably wind up finding for yourself
All the strengths that you have inside still rising
(All the strengths that you have inside of you)

3. James Taylor: You've Got A Friend

This is one of my favorite all-time songs from a great musician. It is such a laid-back, easy going groove, with lyrics that melt your heart. I blogged about it awhile back and posted the chord chart, here. Here's yours truly playing another song by James Taylor, Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight on a small Yamaha keyboard I use for my students.

Casting Crowns: Who Am I

Casting Crowns (album)
Casting Crowns (album) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I'm a big fan of Casting Crowns. In a former post, I shared the chord progressions with you, to the song Voice of Truth. Now I'd like to share the chords to Who Am I that was written in 2003 by Mark Hall. The song is played in the key of Bb, moderately slow in 2.

Casting Crowns

Verse 1
       C G Am
Who am I? That the Lord of all the earth,
      G F G F
Would care to know my name, would care to feel my hurt,
       C G Am
Who am I? That the Bright and Morning Star,
      G F G F
Would choose to light the way, For my ever wandering heart,
    Am G F G
Not because of who I am, but because of what You've done,
    Am G F G
Not because of what I've done, but because of who You are,

Chorus

C G Am G F
I am a flower quickly fading, here today and gone tomorrow,
  G F C
A wave tossed in the ocean (ocean), a vapor in the wind,
          G Am G F
Still You hear me when I'm calling, Lord, You catch me when I'm falling,
           G F
And You've told me who I am..
     C
I am Yours.

Verse 2

       C G Am
Who am I? That the eyes that see my sin,
      G F G F
Would look on me with love, and watch me rise again,
       C G Am
Who am I? That the voice that calmed the sea,
      G F G F
Would call out through the rain, and calm the storm in me,
    Am G F G
Not because of who I am, but because of what You've done,
    Am G F G
Not because of what I've done, but because of who You are,

Here I am playing the song from one of my songbooks on my old acoustic piano.

I changed the tempo a bit and made a few mistakes in the video taken with my iPad. lol
I thought I'd post the chords here so you can follow along. I realize there are a lot of arpeggios here but I'll just share them as blocked chords and you can fill in the rest of the notes in the key of Bb.
