Kirk Franklin: Free

Kirk Franklin

The song Free was written in 2000 by Kirk Franklin. It's played in the Key of Bb with 4/4 time. I play an arrangement by Bradley Knight that's pretty cool. Here's a video of the song. Hope you like it. I'm so grateful I found the chords to this beautiful song. Be blessed. There are so many hurting people out there. Keep playing and ministering His great love for all!

  • "Free" Lyrics

I know the pain you feel inside
And the tears you try to hide
In your heart you ask God why
Can you help me, will you help me please
Take away the pain
Where's the sun I feel the rain.
Then I hear your spirit say...That I am

[Chorus]
Free
Free to lift my hands
Free to say Amen
Free to know that someday I will smile again
I'm free
Free to laugh not cry
Free to live not die
Because of your love
I'm free

I know you're troubled by your past
And you hide behind your mask
The misery it seems to last
Through the night but it's alright
Joy is just a prayer away
Don't look back at yesterday
Then hear your spirit say
That I am

[Chorus]
Free
Free to lift my hands

Free to say Amen
Free to know that someday I will smile again
I'm free
Free to laugh not cry
Free to live not die
Because of your love
I'm Free

No more chains and loneliness
For Christ has set me free
For we are more than conquerors
Through his love now I can see
That I am

[Chorus]
Free
Free to lift my hands
Free to say Amen
Free to know that someday I will smile again
I'm free
Free to laugh not cry
Free to live not die
Because of your love
I'm Free

Delirious: I Could Sing of Your Love Forever

Delirious Band

I'm always seeing minor chords sprinkled within a chord chart, well... most of the time. So, let's review for a minute. You've learned:

  • how to construct the major Interval
  • how to construct the perfect Interval

Major Third: Distance between root and (3) degree
Perfect Fifth Interval: Distance between root and 5th

Major Chord

The (major chord) is created by combining the major third and perfect fifth intervals.

For example, in (C major), a major third interval is from (C) to (E). A perfect fifth interval is from (C) to (G).

Combining these two intervals looks like the following:

(C) to (E) and (C) to (G).

Since the root is used in both intervals and can only be played once, the (C major) chord is:

(C) + (E) + (G).

Minor Chord

The (minor chord) is created just like the major chord. The only difference is that it utilizes a "minor third" interval instead of a "major third" interval ( the perfect fifth remains the same).

If a major third is the difference between the root and (3) degree, what do you think a minor third is?

Minor Third: Difference between the root and lowered (3) degree.

The minor third is a major third interval "squeezed in" by a half step. For example, in (C major), the major third interval is from (c) to (E).

The minor third simply lowers the (E) a half step to (E flat). Thus a minor third is: (C) - (E flat)

Comparison:

Major Third = (C) - (E)
Minor Third = (C) - (E flat)
Perfect Fifth = (C) - (G)

Combining a Minor third and a Perfect fifth creates a minor chord: (C) + (E flat) + (G)

Here are other ways of figuring out a major or minor chord:

Major Chord: Take the (1) (3) and (5) of the major scale and play them all together.

Minor Chord: take the (1) (3) and (5) of the minor scale and play them all together. Learning all your major and minor scales will allow you to know all of your major and minor chords.

Review

C Major = (C) (E) (G)
C Minor = (C) (Eb) (G)... b equals the notation for flat. Try learning the major and minor chords of all 12 keys. Just use the same exact pattern.

  • Delirious
Do you have a favorite song from the band? I like "Do You Feel the Mountains Tremble?" and "Lord You Have My Heart."
  • I Could Sing of Your Love Forever
Here's the song in two different keys, F and G

The following chord chart is from Deeper

Verse:
D2 Em7
Over the mountains and the sea,
                              G2
Your river runs with love for me,
                      Asus
and I will open up my heart
                          D2
and let the Healer set me free.
                       Em7
I'm happy to be in the truth,
                         G2
and I will daily lift my hands:
                          Asus
for I will always sing of when

Your love came down.

Chorus:
D2 Em7
I could sing of Your love forever,
G2 Asus
I could sing of Your love forever,
D2 Em7
I could sing of Your love forever,
G2 Asus
I could sing of Your love forever,

Bridge thingy:
Em/B Bm
Oh, I feel like dancing - hey yeaah
G/B A/B
     it's foolishness I know;
G/B Bm
but, when the world has seen the light,
          G/B
they will dance with joy,
                   A/B
like we're dancing now.

How To Play: How Deep the Father's Love for Us

Jesus Christ Crucifix
Jesus Christ Crucifix (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I have been playing this beautiful song over and over this week. I love Stuart Townend because his lyrics are so inspiring. You'll want to play, How Deep the Father's Love for Us in the Key of D with 5/4 time signature. It's to be played quietly, so you can play the chording of the song at a memorial service, the offering and deep, reflective worship. Stuart Townend wrote the words and music in 1995.

Stuart Townend is an English Christian worship leader and writer of hymns and contemporary worship music. I especially like, "In Christ Alone." For more information, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuart_Townend

  • Story Behind The Song

    D Em D/F# G D/F# Asus-A
How deep the Father's love for us, how vast beyond all measure
     D Em D/F# G D/F# A D
That he should give his only son, to make a wretch his treasure
                       Em D/F# G D/F# Bm A
How great the pain of searing loss, the Father turned his face away
    D Em D/F# G D/F# A D
As wounds which mar the chosen one, bring many sons to glory

     D Em D G D Asus-A
Behold the man upon a cross, my sin upon his shoulders
 D Em-D G D A D
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers
                    Em D G D Bm A
It was my sin that held him there until it was accomplished
    D Em D G D A D
His dying breath has brought me life; I know that it is finished

 D Em D G D Asus-A
I will not boast in anything: no gifts, no power, no wisdom
  D Em-D G D A D
But I will boast in Jesus Christ; his death and resurrection
                        Em D G D Bm A
Why should I gain from his reward? I cannot give an answer
    D Em D G D A D
But this I know with all my heart: his wounds have paid my ransom
