Monday Mailbag: One Moment In Time

I received a song request, One Moment In Time (Level 5),  from Donald A. Schiemann.
It is a beautiful Emmy Award winning song, written by Albert Hammon and John Bettis. It was recorded by American singer Whitney Houston for the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 1988 Paralympics held in Seoul, South Korea. Wikipedia goes on to say that following Houston's death, Entertainment Weekly published a list of her 25 best songs and ranked it #14 because: "The Seoul Olympics needed an anthem, and Houston rose to meet the challenge.

The track is an anthem for believing in yourself against all odds as Houston asks for "One moment in time/when I'm racing with destiny/Then, in that one moment of time, I will feel eternity." I feel that the whole world was saddened when we lost the great star, Whitney Houston but don't you just love this song? I have blogged about it before and you can see my previous post at Piano Chords: One Moment In Time

I also love to look at pictures of clocks. I think I just about have a clock in every room. Do you?

If you're not real familiar with the hit song, you can watch yours truly play it on my little Yamaha keyboard I use with my students. My large keys, the Yamaha Motif, I use for tracks and recordings, too. What do you practice on? I also have an old upright piano that has been with me for a very long time that my mother gave me. I am indeed blessed.

I wanted to share with you the piano/guitar chords from Charlie Valera. Whether you play by ear or read notes, you've just got to know your basic chords, major and minor.

           A
Each day I live I want to be
         E
A day to give the best of me
         A D
I'm only one but not alone
          E
My finest day is yet unknown
           A
I broke my heart for every gain
             E
To taste the sweet I faced the pain
           A D
I rise and fall yet through it all

This must remains
       A E F#m

One Moment In Time

This last video is without using the rhythm software. Sometimes programmed rhythms
really do help you stay on the beat. In this case, I played the song a tad slower
because I was thinking about the lyrics. If you are familiar with slash chords on a
chord chart, here's what I'm playing. 4/4 time, Andante
